FAQs
Why did my aquarium pH level rise rapidly after changing my gravel?
Some buffering by natural gravel is expected, but it will have a more dramatic effect on tap water with little buffering capacity (KH). At least 30-40mg/L KH temporary hardness is required to stabilize pH levels.
Is the Fluval Ammonia Test kit affected by ammonia binding/locking supplements?
The Fluval Ammonia test kit uses the Indophenol method, which is typically not affected by ammonia binding/locking products. Given that there are many such water supplements on the market today, we cannot guarantee this will always be the case.
Why did my test kit reading show a different pH value than when I brought a water sample to the store?
It’s best to bring both your water sample and test kit to the store, in order to measure both at the same time. Conditions can differ between locations sufficiently to affect test kit results. Furthermore, if your container had too much air in it, the pH level is likely to have changed.
